Principals' Academy

What is the Principals’ Academy?
The Principals’ Academy is a year-long leadership experience dedicated to the professional development, improvement and support of North Country principals. The Principals’ Academy begins with a two-night retreat followed by one Friday a month session (September to May) at St. Lawrence University.

Who sponsors the Principals’ Academy?
The Principals’ Academy is a joint venture between the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES and the graduate Educational Leadership Program at St. Lawrence University. Participants from other North Country BOCES are encouraged to participate.

What does it cost to attend the Principals’ Academy?
The Academy tuition is $ 1,650 per participant. Tuition for participants for other North Country BOCES may receive aid through School Improvement CoSer 526.

What does the tuition include?
The Principals' Academy tuition is all-inclusive covering the retreat and all subsequent monthly sessions, instructional materials, and administrative costs.

Where is the Principals’ Academy held?
Most academic-year sessions are held at St. Lawrence University, but some may be held at BOCES in Canton, with a number of site visits to local schools.

When are the Summer retreats?
One session will be offered from June 27 to June 29, 2017.  This includes two nights at Canaras on the shores of Saranac Lake.

Is the cost of the room included?
Yes, tuition includes double occupancy rooms at Canaras.  Those wishing a single room will be charged $95 per night for on or off site lodging.

Can a principal attend just part of the Principals' Academy?
No. A participant's full engagement is required.  The Principals' Academy is designed to build a professional learning community among North Country principals.  there are no fee adjustments for unattended sessions.
