General Studies in Education Programs

The University offers options leading to NY initial and  professional certification in teaching fields, and a non-certification option designed to provide the broadest possible service to residents of New York's North Country.  The certification programs are approved and registered by the New York State Education Department , and they are accredited from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2012 by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC)

NY teaching certificate programs in K-12 Visual Arts and in 7-12 English, Math, Social Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, General Science, Physics, French, German, and Spanish.

M. Ed. - General Studies in Education (Initial/Professional Cert. Option) - 40 sem. hrs.

  • Part I - NY initial teaching certification upon completion of 27 sem. hrs. of required courses (Post-Baccalaureate)
  • Part II - Eligible for NY professional teaching certification upon completion of remaining 12 sem. hrs. and 3 yrs. of teaching
  • Course requirements
  • Admission requirements (due October 1 or April 1)

M. Ed. - General Studies in Education (Professional Cert. Option) - 36 sem. hrs.

M. Ed. - General Studies in Education (Non-certification Option) - 36 sem. hrs.

  • Broad exposure to topics in education useful in a variety of non-school settings
