In Memory: Charlie Scanlon '10.

Class of 2010 economics major CHARLES BROWN SCANLON, son of Bob Scanlon and Carol "Candy" Neville of Shaker Heights, Ohio, died accidentally June 6th, 2009, while climbing Devil's Summit near Mossman, Australia.  Charlie was spending a semester abroad at James Cook University in Cairns, AU.

International Economics-Modern Languages Combined Majors approved.

Starting with the fall 2009 semester, St. Lawrence University will offer four new combined majors in economics and foreign languages. The new combined majors are offered in international economics/Spanish; international economics/German; international economics/French; and international economics/multi-language.

Economics major top student in the class of 2009

(May 17, 2009)  Dipesh Mainali  graduated from St. Lawrence Summa Cum Laude  with honors in economics. Dipesh was also the senior with the highest cumulative grade-point average over four full years of study at St. Lawrence; his GPA is 3.941 (out of a possible 4.0).

Other economics students in the Class of 2009  graduating Summa Cum Laude were Michael James Crankshaw-Bierce and Marcella Inderia Hall.

2009 Summer research fellows in economics

Economics faculty have sponsored three students selected as 2009 University Fellows. This allows these students to receive funding while conducting research this summer with faculty partners in the Department of Economics.

Dr. Jeffrey Young elected to History of Economics Society position.

Professor of Economics Jeffrey Young, a noted scholar of Adam Smith's writings, has been elected to a three-year term as a member of the executive committee governing the History of Economics Society.

Departmental awards in economics announced at Moving-Up Day.

At this year's Moving-Up Day the following departmental awards were announced: 

Dr. Jeffrey Young to speak on Adam Smith at the Piskor Lecture on Mon 4/13@7:30 p.m.

This year's campus celebration of the 250th anniversary of the publication of Adam Smith's The Theory of Moral Sentiments will conclude on Monday April 13th at 7:30 p.m in Herring-Cole Hall with  A. Barton Hepburn Professor of Economics Jeffrey T. Young presenting "Justice, Property and Markets: Economics as Moral Philosophy."
