Trish McMahon '06, Federal Way, WA,
(a graduate of BellarminePreparatory
School) can respond to emergencies and write about
them. The senior English major,
who has a concentration in writing and served a term
as editor-in-chief of the student newspaper, also is a
member of the Student Safety Team, the First Response Team, the
Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad, the Canton Fire and Rescue Squad.
This heavy load is only a part of the picture, though. Trish,
a Presidential
Diversity Scholar, has been student literary magazine production editor,
in the Special Productions Ensemble, Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity
secretary, Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honorary, and the English honorary.
“This shows how easy it is to get involved at St. Lawrence.
You will still be treated with the same level of respect no matter what year
you are,” she says.
From her first visit to campus, Trish knew that St.
Lawrence was a place where all people were treated as part of a community. “I
visited St. Lawrence during one of the fall visit days,” she
recalls. “I
went to the climbing wall, went to a couple of club meetings and
was welcomed by everyone in the groups. They treated me like I was
a student right along with them—not like a prospective
who they needed to treat differently.”
Trish hopes to keep newspaper
work a part of her life after St. Lawrence by
pursuing a graduate program in print journalism and then finding
a career in newspaper production. She also plans to continue
working as an EMT.
