“You can accomplish anything with the skills acquired at SLU,” says Andrew Le ’10. As proof of that, a paper by Le was accepted for presentation at the meeting of the Eastern Sociological Society in Boston in March of 2010. Le, of King, WA, is a sociology major.
The paper was titled "Destiny of the Poor: The Transnational Migration of Vietnamese Laborers to the Caribbean." Conference director Jonathan White, of Bridgewater State College, wrote to Le of his submission, "We were impressed with your abstract and the thoughtfulness of your work. Indeed, it is encouraging and makes us proud as sociologists to know that undergraduate students are producing the type of high-quality work that your abstract presents."
Le studied in China and Trinidad/Tobago through the University's International and Intercultural Studies Program and was a member of the football team. He plans to continue his education at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, studying for his master’s degree in sociology. “Dream Big!” he told his classmates on St. Lawrence’s 2010 Commencement Web site. Le is doing just that.
