Kennedy Khabo ’91 learned that his personal actions have international
influence. A government major and an African Studies and sociology minor,
Khabo learned through his classes and professors that everything
he did not only affected himself and those around him, but it also
affected the world.
“Dr. David Lloyd, Dr. Ahmed Samatar and Dr. Joe Kling were
very influential people,” he says. “They
helped me focus my life, both personally and academically. They
encouraged me to think critically about social issues, and helped
me better understand the role and influence of state power in human
relationships and the importance of being actively
involved in efforts to make the world a better place to live. But
most importantly, these professors helped me understand the importance
of being a life-long learner.”
Kennedy, who also received his master’s degree from Georgetown
University in public policy, is now managing director in
a Johannesburg, South
Africa and Washington, D.C. based
Company called El Cubed Millennium Solutions, which promotes
business investments and business joint ventures in South Africa. Kennedy
believes that his career was directly affected by his education at
St. Lawrence.
Kennedy has always been an active alumnus because his life and career
have been directly affected by St. Lawrence. “For me, St.
Lawrence offers a unique opportunity for one (especially students of
color) to grow and develop at their own pace, with access to
unlimited resources and a thorough network of support,” he
says. Kennedy recently became one of the newest
members of the Alumni Executive Council. “The council
is the best vehicle for the alumni to give back and be involved, he
says. “I have always been interested in working with
SLU since I graduated, and I see this as an opportunity to give back,
and spread the word amongst alumni, especially alumni of color.”
