An Invitation from Dean Lehr

Colleagues,

Each year, May College provides an opportunity for faculty and staff to come together to discuss teaching and learning. This year’s May College will extend a number of conversations begun over the past few years. The central questions that we will explore is “What Do We Know about Student Learning at St. Lawrence University?” and how might some of the grants that we have been working on over the past few years help us to enhance student learning? In relation to the latter, we will discuss the Teagle Grant that is allowing us to better assess, and therefore understand, the impact of our diversity requirement; the Mellon Grant that allows us to integrate and support our various environmental education programs; as well as the Bringing Theory to Practice Grant that has enabled us to explore connections between various engaged learning practices, including service learning, and student engagement on campus and in their communities.

In addition to these sessions, we will have the opportunity to think together about Technological Fluency and the role that it can and should plan in our curriculum and to extend the conversations that we have had about 4 year learning goals by discussing what a cluster model of general education would look like. This will be helpful as we turn back to curriculum conversations next year.

As always, please plan to attend either the entire event or those portions that you feel are particularly helpful for you.
