May College 2010
Rethinking Pedagogy, Practice and Student Learning
May 13 and 14, 2010

All-too-often we find ourselves mired in the everydayness of teaching and working with little time to reflect on the bigger questions of why we are doing what we are doing in our classrooms, labs and/or studios. Rushed between email, committee work, grading, advising and teaching--the passion and curiosity that brought us all here can sometimes get lost. But what is it that we are doing? Why? To what ends? And, most importantly what if...we could do it differently in a way that kept us as inspired as we hope our students are in our studios, labs and classrooms?

Over the past two years, different groups of faculty and staff (the Academic Affairs Committee, Teagle Committee, Educational Technology Committee and Assessment Committee) have worked tirelessly on these questions and have come up with important insights. Members of various groups will set the the context and provide some framing questions to guide us in these conversations. It is our hope that this May College will provide the space and time to share ideas on student learning and pedagogical practice and how we can realize, what we believe are, the most fundamental aspects of our mission at a liberal arts college in these tough times.
