May College 2008
General Education 2.0: Exploring Essential Literacies
Tuesday, May 20 - Thursday, May 22

Call for Proposals

The May College 2008 program will encourage preliminary explorations of what it means to be literate in a global society. Literacy in the 21st Century is not only about conventional text-based literacy but also includes technology and media applications and extends into visual, quantitative, civic and intercultural realms of knowledge. These literacies should not compete in a curriculum but rather should complement one another; indeed, "the effectiveness of liberal education is in its entirety; not in any discrete part" (AAC&U's Purposeful Pathways).

You are enthusiastically invited to submit a session proposal to discuss or demonstrate an instructional practice or course assignment that may deepen our collective understanding of how we address any of these essential literacies in our classess and curriculum.

*Submission Details Deadline: Monday, February 18, 2008*
