CSTEP happily announces the addition of a new staff member as the new CSTEP program coordinator beginning in the spring semester. Carol Budd, a general biology specialist and long time faculty member in the biology department, will be joining Carol Kissam to help provide CSTEP services. Carol B. and Carol K. have already begun to talk about next semester, and it is clear that the addition of a new person with a fresh perspective will greatly improve CSTEP services.

In late October when McNair secretary Rhonda Furgison moved to a new job, Carol Kissam took on full time the duties of McNair program along with the CSTEP program. The amount of work required for both programs is great and will only increase as the McNair program enrolls more students. Carol Budd’s experience, skills, creative talents and advisory knowledge are a welcomed addition. Contacts with our CSTEP Program Officer at the New York State Education Department regarding this change have been very positive – especially since Carlos Garcia and Carol Budd have worked together here in the past for the HEOP program.

Carol Budd will be planning and running CSTEP programming and providing counseling services to CSTEP members while Carol Kissam will administer grant requirements such as budgets and reports and remain somewhat involved in portions of the program planning and counseling in order to provide continuity to the program.

The transition will take place over winter break when office space, schedules and other details will be completed. A symposium and the statewide CSTEP conference are already being planned for the spring, and CSTEP members can look forward to a terrific semester ahead.
