Text Box: Text Box: Since the spring of 1997, the annual Northern New York CSTEP Network Career Exploration Symposium has alternately been hosted at Clarkson University, St. Lawrence University or SUNY Potsdam and has become a highlight event for the CSTEP students in northern New York. On Saturday October 25, the three program directors—Catherine Clark of Clarkson, Carol Ann Kissam of St. Lawrence University and Diana Fisher of SUNY Potsdam—will be sharing information about the symposium in a workshop presentation at the American Council on Education’s Educating All of One Nation conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
The conference, subtitled “Addressing a National Imperative:Why We Can’t Wait,” will Text Box: focus on programs that improve minority participation in postsecondary education.
The annual CSTEP symposium has been jointly planned with students and has brought notable keynote speakers as well as local professionals and alumni together to share experiences in their career fields. CSTEP students have benefited greatly from that dialogue. The roundtable discussions and group interaction at the symposium are consistently praised in evaluations, and the keynote speakers have received accolades from the students and professional guests alike. Among them in 1999 was the first Native American NASA astronaut, then Lt. Cmdr. John Herrington.
