SYMPOSIUM BRINGS ALUMNI BACK
Held this year at SUNY Potsdam, the March 7th Northern New York Network’s Career Exploration Symposium brought together CSTEP and STEP students from programs at Clarkson, SLU and SUNY Potsdam for an afternoon of informative sessions, networking, and speeches. Also attending this year were several alumni from SLU. Our alumni were on professional panels and at round tables sharing their expertise and interacting with the students who attended. We happily welcomed Travis Proulx ’04 to a panel presentation on Advocacy. Travis is currently the Deputy Press Secretary for the Senate Majority Leader in Albany. To our added delight, attending the round table discussions were Melina Cruz ‘06 who is currently a clinical social worker for The Astor Home for Children; Mikinee Moses’06, a high school mathematics teacher in the Bronx, NY; Sara Morrison ‘00, a college mathematics instructor at Clarkson University; and Toyin Showole Weaver’04 , M.D. a physician who is in her first year of residency at Albany Medical College in Albany, NY; and our own Sahiry Rodrguez ‘07.
CSTEP also owes a debt to the members of the staff and faculty here who also gave their time and expertise on panels or in round table discussions. They were Dr. Ana Estevez, Dr. Pamela Thacher, and Mr. Bill Short. The event was a wonderful success thanks to all who participated.
The event closed with a dinner and senior speakers from each of the programs. It won’t be easy to forget Richard Torres singing his speech. Good show, Richard!
