Three St. Lawrence CSTEP Students Heading to Medical School this Fall
The St. Lawrence University Collegiate Science & Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) is pleased to announce that three graduating seniors have been accepted into medical school for the fall. Having earned numerous awards and achievements throughout their undergraduate years, these students demonstrate the qualities necessary to meet the challenges and rigors of medical school.
Ellis J. (EJ) Curtis, III, a resident of Canton, NY will be entering the University of California at San Diego, Medical Scientist Training Program (MD/PhD) program. EJ is also a McNair Scholar and through his work with his mentor, Dr. Samantha Glazier, he found research to be a way he can contribute to the field of cancer treatment. His professional plan is to obtain the education necessary for him to pursue a career which will allow him to integrate research with the practice of medicine.
Danielle Clifford is from Esperance, NY. She plans to attend Upstate Medical University College of Medicine with a focus on rural medicine. Danielle has been selected for the prestigious Alumni Scholar Award which recognizes her outstanding credentials and desire to become a physician. Receiving the largest award given by the Upstate Medical Alumni Foundation, Danielle will be able to focus on her studies and move closer toward her current goal of a career specializing in Psychiatry.
Thomas Bedard, from Mooers, NY also will be attending the Upstate Medical University College of Medicine - Rural Medical Program. His interest in medicine was inspired through his participation in the New York State, New Visions: Medical Careers exploratory course for high school students at the Champlain Valley Educational Services in Plattsburgh, NY. While at St. Lawrence, Thomas' interest in the field of medicine continued to grow under the guidance of his McNair Faculty Mentor, Dr. Joseph Erlichman. Thomas also volunteered with Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley and the University Emergency Medical Services.
