The Great Depression and the Current Recession
Although the Great Depression was much more severe than the current recession, the two events have instructive parallels from which we can learn much about business fluctuations and their remedies. Strange to say, the most important lesson is that the more actively the government tries to combat the bust, the worse it is. What most people―and most economists― think they know about macroeconomic policy is wrong.
