"The Cultural and Political Economy of Recovery"
Professor Chamlee-Wright discusses her ethnographic research among people who returned to New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina and address the question "What gives communities the ability to rebound in the wake of disaster?" She will examine the role of socially embedded resources, such as civic habits of association, can play as a source of community resilience. She will also discuss the enabling and disabling role public policy can play in the recovery process.
