As a child I spent my summer living in a ramshackle cottage built by my grandfather on the edge of a salt marsh. My passion for biology began in this marsh, where I filled my days exploring and interacting with all the diverse biota: razor sharp grass, screeching ospreys, territorial hermit crabs, and my human neighbors who didn’t often realize the beautiful balance they are interrupting. I recently returned to St. Lawrence from studying abroad in New Zealand, where I spent time tracking down the elusive Kiwi bird and studying marine science. As a senior at St. Lawrence I’m enjoying my time studying porcupines and learning to identify the common moss species of the Northeast.
