Community Mentor: 

Agency and Placement Location: Hermon DeKalb Elementary School

Mission: According to their website, the Reading Buddies "Pair up St. Lawrence University student volunteers with children who are struggling with literacy skills. The students in Reading Buddies have been referred to the program by school counselors and/or teachers based on reading level and the belief that they would benefit both academically and emotionally from having a SLU reading buddy."

Projects: Only available to FRPG 1059CBL. 

  • In addition to helping with literacy skills and confidence, SLU students will work with a buddy in order to provide them with a consistent adult role model.
  • The goal is to instill these children with good reading habits and the idea that reading can be fun and interesting.
