CBL Graduate Assistant

The Coordinator of the Community Mentor Program will work with Community Mentors (CMs), who comprise the student staff of Community Based Learning. CMs foster and guide the overall experience of students involved in course-based community engagement. In doing so, CMs contribute to strengthening and maintaining the relationship between St. Lawrence University and the local community. The primary role of the Coordinator will be to foster the professional and leadership development of CMs and to oversee their daily work. This position allows for approximately 15-17 hours per week. Under the supervision of the Director, Community Partnerships, the Coordinator will be responsible for the following:

Community Mentor Program:

  • Plan and facilitate bi-weekly CM staff meetings
  • Conduct bi-weekly individual meetings with CM staff (approximately 20)
  • Plan and implement a CM staff training at the start of each semester
  • Update and implement a full year leadership and professional development curriculum for the Community Mentor program
  • Explore/Plan for professional development opportunities for the CMs
  • Collaborate with appropriate CMs to recruit students for the CCE Housing Suites
  • Coordinate with CMs to produce content for end-of-year newsletter


  • Matriculated Graduate Student at St. Lawrence University
  • Bachelor degree required
  • Knowledge of/Capable of fostering student leadership development, relevant experience preferred
  • Able to work independently
  • Organized and timely
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong and effective relationships
  • Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends
  • Competent in and comfortable with public speaking
