Allen Splete's 14 years as president of the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) brought dramatic growth in membership and stature for this national organization that provides services to campus leaders as well as seminars, workshops, and programs that assist institutions in improving educational programs, administrative and financial performance and institutional visibility. He led such projects as Enhancing Black College Leadership and The Academic Workplace in Liberal Arts Colleges. Today he directs CIC's Presidents Consulting Service, which provides advice and counsel in president-board relations, financial management and crisis management. Prior to his tenure at CIC, he was vice president for academic planning and special programs at St. Lawrence and president of Westminster College. He has served on numerous education commissions and committees and written extensively on higher education.
