Perhaps more than any living Canadian, David Torrey’53 has shaped the investment banking industry of the United States’ closest ally and trading partner. As a 40-year executive of Pitfield, Mackay & Ross, Ltd., later Dominion Securities and now the investment arm of the Royal Bank of Canada, Mr. Torrey led with astute business acumen, compassion and integrity. In 1994 he formed his own investment banking consultancy, specializing in cross-border investments between the U.S. and Canada, and remains its president. He was elected a St. Lawrence trustee in 1987, serving until 2002, when he was elected to emeritus status. His philanthropy has benefitted St. Lawrence in numerous campus projects, scholarships and research funds.
