As president of the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) since 1998, Carol Geary Schneider leads 1,200 institutions to advance and strengthen undergraduate liberal education. This role is the apex in a long and distinguished career of teaching, scholarship and advocacy in which students and faculty have been the grateful beneficiaries. In 2005, she initiated Liberal Education and America’s Promise (LEAP), a 10-year campus action and public campaign designed to engage students and the public with what really matters in college. Previously, she had led projects on general education reform and on the purposes and organizing principles of arts and sciences majors. She has taught at several universities, has been a fellow with the U.S. Department of Education and has published extensively.
