For over 20 years, through GardenShare and through writings workshops and seminars, Philip Harnden has helped countless regional citizens have nutritious and affordable food. Founded in 1998 by Mr. Harnden, GardenShare publishes an annual Local Food Guide that lists farmers' markets, farm stands, U-pick orchards, restaurants, grocers and other outlets that offer food raised in St. Lawrence County. It organizes in a central location the farms that participate in Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), partnerships between farmers and local consumers in which everyone shares the risks and the bounty of farming. Educational programming and communications materials also spread the word about sustainable agriculture and proper nutrition.
