Mr. Brush is the proud chairman emeritus of Sentry Group in Rochester, New York, a family business founded in 1931 by his father, John D. Brush ’22. Sentry manufactures fire- and theft-resistant safes, and, as important, recognizes the importance of making a useful and successful product while also caring about employees and the larger community in which we all live. Richard Brush led the company for over 35 years, stressing a progressive work culture that led to its global expansion reaching 50 nations. As he led Sentry, he also established himself as a contemporary patron of the arts, especially in his native Rochester and for his alma mater, St. Lawrence. A 1952 graduate who has always been devoted to SLU, Mr. Brush was a member of the Alumni Executive Council and received an Alumni Citation in 1980. He was elected a trustee in 1990 and served until his retirement and election as trustee emeritus in 2002.
