Planning Ahead - Things to Bring: Tips from Previous First-Year Students

Identification Documents

  • Driver's License or other government-issued photo ID (You will need this identification proof when you check in)
  • Passport

The University provides the basic furnishings for residential living (window drapes and/or shades, a single bed, desk, chair, wastebasket, dresser, and closet space per person) but your predecessors have found that a few additions help them feel at home.

Bed Stuff

  • Twin extra-long sheets (mattresses: 80” long and 36” wide, extra long)
  • Mattress cover
  • Blanket
  • Pillows
  • Bedspread, comforter

Toiletries

  • Towels/washcloths
  • Shower tote
  • Shower sandals/flip flops
  • personal toiletries

Clothes/Storage Stuff

  • Winter jacket
  • Gloves, scarf, winter hat

  • School supplies (i.e., pens, binders, notebooks, highlighters, stapler, etc.)
  • Wireless capable computer – all residences have wireless Internet
  • Computer recovery discs
  • Stamps/ envelopes/address book
  • Calendar/assignment book/planner
  • Back pack/tote bag
  • Rechargeable batteries
  • 3-prong extension cord (UL approved)
  • 3-prong powerstrip and surge protector
  • Flashlight

Food/Food items

  • Snacks
  • Reusable mug/cup/water bottle
  • Dishes/bowls/plates/utensils
  • Environmentally-friendly dishwashing liquid/sponge

Medical/Health Related Items

  • Copy of health insurance card
  • Contact info for your physician
  • First aid kit

  • Broom/dust pan/vacuum (or can be borrowed from building staff)

  • Decorations (one or two tapestries or pieces of material per room; any other decorations must be hung so as not to damage walls or paint or create fire hazards)
  • Non-toxic cleaning supplies (disinfectant, cleaning spray and/or wipes)
