Information for Your Arrival
CHECKING-IN: Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 25th and continues until 3:00 p.m. When you arrive on campus, you should check in at your residence hall building. You will find the name of your building on the First-Year Program Placement and Information Sheet which was mailed to you in late June. At check-in, you will receive your SLU ID/meal card and room combination.
IMPORTANT NOTES FOR CHECK-IN: You must present a government issued photo ID at check-in before you can receive your SLU ID/meal card. Also, your immunization records and health forms must be on file with the Health Center in order for you to begin check-in at your residence hall. If you have questions regarding your immunization records and health forms, staff will be available to assist you in the Sullivan Student Center Winston Room starting at 8:30 a.m.
MOVING INTO YOUR RESIDENCE HALL ROOM: The residence halls are not available for occupancy until 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 25th, unless you are going on a North Country Pre-Trip (see below) or are required to be here for a sport (if so, you will receive information from your coach). People will be available all day Sunday to assist you with campus directions and moving-in tasks. Look for individuals in special Residence Life and Orientation shirts. They are there to help!
ACCOMMODATIONS: You may wish to stay in a hotel on the night of August 24th and/or your family may wish to stay over on the 25th before heading back home. You can find information about local accommodations at http://www.stlawu.edu/regional-accommodations or http://www.stlawu.edu/student-activities-and-leadership/accommodations.
DIRECTIONS: You will find directions to campus, to the residence halls and to parking on campus in the "Orientation" paragraph below. You will also find a campus map online at http://www.stlawu.edu/campus_map.
ORIENTATION: An orientation program for your family begins at 10:30 a.m. on August 25th and concludes with the Matriculation Ceremony, which begins at 3:30 p.m. In addition, beginning at 8:30 a.m., staff from the Safety and Security Office and the Health and Counseling Center will be available in the Sullivan Student Center Winston Room. The Matriculation Ceremony marks the beginning of orientation for incoming students, which continues until classes begin on Wednesday, August 28th. You will find an overview of the Orientation Schedule on the New Student Guide & Forms website, and will receive a hard copy of a full schedule when you check-in.
NORTH COUNTRY PRE-TRIPS: If you have been pre-approved to go on a North Country Pre-Trip, you should arrive on Wednesday, August 21st, and you will be able to move into your room on that day. We will have a brief orientation program for families of students going on the pre-trips, but families are welcome to return, if possible, on Sunday for the full Family Orientation. First year students will be back on campus by Sunday morning. Please see the section on “North Country Trips” on the New Student Guide & Forms website or contact the Office of Student Activities and Leadership at (315) 229-5757 for more information or if you have any questions about pre-trips.
