Students interested in a major or minor in Art & Art History must complete coursework in both studio art and art history. FA 131: Drawing I is the prerequisite for all upper-level studio courses and is open to first year students. FA 116: Survey of Art History I (HUM) and FA 117: Survey of Art II (HUM) are also open to first-year students. You can take Survey of Art II without taking Survey of Art I. Students must take one of the survey courses for the major/minor and as a prerequisite for upper-level art history courses. The requirements for the major will change beginning fall 2011. ("FA" is an abbreviation for "Fine Arts.")

Courses this fall appropriate for first year students, subject to availability of seats, are:

  • FA 116: Survey of Art History I (HUM)
  • FA 117: Survey of Art History II (HUM)
