This is a topical course on financial markets in London.  This course will consist of three components:  financial market structures, central banking, and financial centers all with a focus on London.  For the first section, we will compare financial structures in the U.S.

Off-campus study is an opportunity open to sophomore, junior and senior students with appropriate academic preparation, motivation, and interest in the relevant area.  Students in all major fields may participate in off-campus programs:  some programs have distinctive curricular strengths, but all are designed to enable students with a variety of interests to benefit from the experience of living and studying in a different cultural setting.

Theater in London: Introduction

The Scope of the Course

We will see 10 plays during the semester. Whilst it is not possible to arrange our theatre visits so that the plays follow a chronological order, the course aims to give an overview of theatre history.

London's Urban Geographies

in

This course provides an introduction to the disciplines of urban studies and urban geography. It outlines how cities can be interpreted as economic, social, cultural and political entities. Using London as both an example and a laboratory, it interrogates a range of continuities and changes, problems and potentials across the urban fabric. It

Program Costs

in

Students participating in the London Program pay regular St. Lawrence University comprehensive fees. The comprehensive fee covers tuition, room and board with the homestay families, theatre tickets for students in the theatre course, and program-integrated field components.

If you receive financial aid, your normal financial aid is applied. Contact the Financial Aid Office if you would like information about additional loans for extra costs associated with studying on this program.

Housing

in
Students are housed with private families in London within commuting distance of the program office and classrooms and within easy walking distance of a bus or tube stop.  Families are typically located about forty minutes commuting distance from the office and classrooms.

Most students will share small double rooms. Linens are provided, but students are expected to change them and to be responsible for their own laundry. Students may be able to receive essential calls at their homestay but in the interest of safety, all students are required to have a cell phone.

Orientation

Students selected to participate in the London Program must attend the orientation meetings held on campus prior to leaving for the program. In addition, there is a three day orientation in London at the beginning of the semester, featuring lectures, tours, introductions to the course offerings, and a theater performance. Students are required to attend all orientation meetings and activities.

Co-curricular

The Program includes field trips to places in London and opportunities to travel elsewhere in the UK. 

The art courses feature weekly gallery visits to such places as the National Gallery, the Tate, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Banqueting House, the Soane Museum and the Royal Academy.
