Japan Introduction

Since 1983 St. Lawrence University has offered students the opportunity to study at Nanzan University.  We are excited to announce a NEW exchange program with Kansai Gaidai University!  For more information please click on the links for the Japanese universities:

Nanzan University in Nagoya

Kansai Gaidai University in Hirakata, Osaka 

Eligibility for the Japan exchange program at Kansai Gaidai University:

  • Qualified sophomores, juniors, or seniors who have taken a course in Asian studies.
  • 3.0 GPA required
  • NO JAPANESE LANGUAGE REQUIRED! 

Eligibility for the Japan exchange programs at Nanzan University:

  • Qualified sophomores and juniors who have taken or are currently taking Japanese 101-102 (offered at St. Lawrence) or its equivalent
  • By the beginning of the exchange period, SLU students must have successfully completed two years of university
  • Priority goes to students who want to study for the year and/or who have taken or are taking Japanese 103-104 (second-year Japanese).
  • 3.0 GPA required
  • Final selection also is dependent on the exchange balance. St. Lawrence cannot send more students than it receives from the Japanese universities. In exceptional situations, an additional student may be sent or received.
