Italy Introduction

St. Lawrence University - in conjunction with Syracuse University Abroad (SU Abroad) - offers qualified juniors and first-semester seniors, primarily those with serious interest in Fine Arts, the opportunity to study in Florence, Italy fall semester. SLU selects approximately 10 students to participate in the fall program.

Florence is an ideal site to study the original creations of artists from Cimabue and Giotto to Botticelli and Leonardo da Vinci. The masterpieces are not confined to the city's great museums: the Uffizi, Galleria Palatina, Pitti Palace, etc. They extend to works of architecture and sculpture of the churches, Cathedral, and villas in and around the city. Syracuse University's program in Florence provides courses that allow students to explore the city's artistic treasures as well as the literary, economic, political, and social environment that supported so many talented artists, poets, philosophers, statesmen and architects.

ALL PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE THE APPROPRIATE LEVEL ITALIAN COURSE. Students are further immersed in the culture and language by living with Florentine hosts. Courses and living arrangements are supported by excellent student services coordinated by a resident director and bilingual staff.
