Italy Program Costs

Students participating in the Florence, Italy program pay regular St. Lawrence University comprehensive fees. The comprehensive fee covers tuition, the "all school" orientation and "all school" field trips, housing, and meals. Breakfasts and 5 evening meals per week are provided by the host family. Beyond this, the SLU Student Financial Services will credit the students' accounts to cover the cost of lunches and 2 dinners per week.

If you receive financial aid, your normal financial aid is applied. Contact the Financial Aid Office if you would like information about additional loans for extra costs associated with studying on this program.

The fee does not cover:

  • transportation to Italy. There is an Airfare Assistance form included in the application packet for the trans-Atlantic flight.
  • passport
  • visa
  • books
  • course fees
  • art studio fees
  • Florentine studio fees,
  • transportation within, and outside, Florence

We estimate the required costs for the Italy program to be $1,825 + course-related fees. This does not include discretionary costs such as entertainment, souvenirs, and personal travel. See Money Matters for more details. Please note that Forence is a very expensive city, as is all of Europe today. In CIIS (Carnegie 108), we have information about what students have spent during the semester/year in the past.

Course-related fees
Certain courses require a course fee to cover lab/studio supplies and/or study tours. In general, study tour fees cover transportation, lodging, and museum entry fees, but not meals.

All students who register for a course with a course fee are required to pay the fee, even if they are only auditing the course. Updated fees are announced each semester in a course-related fees sheet mailed to admitted students by Syracuse University prior to departure from the U.S. In addition, Studio Arts students should be prepared to pay lab fees and supplies.

These fees are not included in the SLU comprehensive fee. They are payable to Syracuse University.

A non-refundable first payment of $500 is to be made upon acceptance. The remaining sum must be paid upon receipt of bills from St. Lawrence University. Participants in the program will have incurred responsibility for the full cost once they have formally accepted enrollment. Refunds will be made in accordance with the policy outlined in the St. Lawrence catalog, minus any money that has been paid out on behalf of the student.
