Off-campus study is an opportunity open to sophomore, junior and senior students with appropriate academic preparation, motivation, and interest in the relevant area.  Students in all major fields may participate in off-campus programs:  some programs have distinctive curricular strengths, but all are designed to enable students with a variety of interests to benefit from the experience of living and studying in a different cultural setting. Students currently on disciplinary, social, or academic probation are not eligible to apply for, or participate in, off-campus study programs.  In addition, students with outstanding disciplinary fines, service hours and/or education program requirements are not eligible to participate in the program.  Second-semester seniors must petition to participate.

LDM:

St. Lawrence University offers qualified sophomores, juniors and first-semester seniors, the opportunity to study in Rome or Tuscania, Italy through Lorenzo de Medici during the fall, spring, or academic year. Applicants for the Lorenzo de Medici program must make a strong case for why the Italy program complements and extends their particular academic focus. Students must have completed at least one course in Italian language prior to participation.

Admission to the program is based on the quality of the application.  Candidates must present a coherent academic rationale for participation in the Italy Program and a record of academic performance that demonstrates ability to meet the challenges of off-campus study.  Candidates must have at least a 2.8 GPA.  Applications below a 2.8 GPA will not be considered.  This is a requirement of LDM.  Candidates for the Italy Program must also present evidence of maturity, responsibility and cultural sensitivity.

Cortona:

St. Lawrence University offers qualified juniors and first-semester seniors with a declared major or minor in Fine Arts with the opportunity to spend the fall or spring semester with the University of Georgia program in Cortona, Italy.  It provides Fine Arts majors and minors with a study abroad option that has a wide range of courses in art history and studio arts. This is the only SLU program which provides courses in studio arts.  Students must have completed at least Fine Arts 1311 and 1 additional Fine Arts course prior to participation.  It is strongly recommended that students have taken 1 semester of Italian prior to participation on the program.

Admission to the program is based on the quality of the application.  Candidates must present a coherent academic rationale for participation in the Cortona Program and a record of academic performance that demonstrates ability to meet the challenges of off-campus study.  The selection committee considers closely the candidate's rationale for participation and academic record as a whole.  Candidates for the Italy Program must also present evidence of maturity, responsibility and cultural sensitivity.
