China Eligibility

Studying in Shanghai, China is an opportunity open to sophomore, junior and senior students with appropriate academic preparation, motivation, and an interest in China. 

Prerequisite:  a course on campus in Asian studies, Chinese language, or a course in economics, global studies, government, or history, which provides relevant background for this program. Students take Chinese language courses during the program.

Admission to the program is based on the quality of application. Candidates must present a coherent academic rationale for participation in the Shanghai Program and a record of academic performance that demonstrates ability to meet the challenges of off-campus study. Students should have at least a 2.8 GPA. Applications below a 2.75 GPA will not be considered. This is a requirement of CIEE.

Students currently on disciplinary, social, or academic probation are not eligible to apply for, or participate in, this program or any other SLU program. In addition, students with outstanding disciplinary fines, service hours and/or education program requirements are not eligible to participate in the program.
