Sheila Bennett, 2009 program directorSheila Bennett is Professor of Sociology and Asian Languages and Cultures at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where she teaches courses on contemporary Tibet, the Ottoman world, and yoga history and philosophy. She has traveled and studied since the late 1970's throughout India and in Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Tibet, and has trained and conducted research in yoga, meditation, and ayurvedic healing traditions. She also teaches research methodology, including observational and survey-based approaches, as well as historiography and oral history techniques. She will be accompanied Fall 09 by her husband, James Bennett, a political scientist who teaches at Syracuse University.
