This course will give undergraduate students from diverse, interdisciplinary backgrounds an overview of the experience of health, sickness and healing within an African setting.  Students will be introduced to concepts about health, sickness and healing from an African perspective in general and Kenya in particular. They also will explore indigenous concepts of disease causation, diagnosis and strategies to reverse the "ill" condition.  And they will consider the role played by various health care providers in Kenya. Special attention will be paid to health issues regarding child survival and women's role in fertility regulation and cultural practices.
