African Studies 337 - Independent Study

Kenya Semester Program

In the final 4 weeks of the term (after the elective course work is completed) students pursue an independent field study.

Students work with the directors during the first 10 weeks to identify a placement approved by the program designed to engage their academic interests and to allow them to pursue the themes of the core course.

Students carry out activities as instructed by a supervisor from the host organization. They also contribute their knowledge, experience and skills learned during the semester to the benefit of the host organization. This is a unique opportunity for our students to experience and analyze the daily work of an East African organization, and for many students the independent study marks an essential first step towards their future career.
