Cost, Financial Aid, and Insurance

Cost
The basic charge for the semester will be the same as the comprehensive fee for the semester at St. Lawrence (in 2005- 06, $20,057.50). This cost includes tuition, room and board, fees associated with subjects (labs, etc), and transportation from Miami to Port of Spain. It does not cover transportation to Miami, passport fees, books, health insurance, or travel costs in the Caribbean. Cell phones are distributed to students for safety reasons. Students pay a $50 deposit and have to buy phone cards to make calls.

Information is included in the program application on travel scholarships - intended to help defray the cost of the airfare from Miami to Trinidad and Tobago - and research grants, which can fund personal or academic projects while a student is participating in the program.

A non-refundable first payment of $500 is to be made upon acceptance. The remaining sum must be paid upon receipt of bills from St. Lawrence University. Participants in the program will have incurred responsibility for the full cost once they have formally accepted enrollment. Refunds will be made in accordance with the policy outlined in the St. Lawrence catalog, minus any money that has been paid out on behalf of the student.

Financial Aid
The Trinidad Program is considered a regular St. Lawrence Program; therefore, financial aid for St. Lawrence students is automatically applied.

Insurance
Because program participants are considered UWI students, access to the campus health clinic is free for minor illnesses. Beyond that, the St. Lawrence University Accident and Sickness Insurance provides worldwide coverage and will offer the same benefits overseas that a student would receive on campus.

Students may choose to have their own insurance or be covered under their family's plan. If students do not purchase the St. Lawrence insurance, proof of coverage by another insurance plan is required.

In addition, students who purchase an International Student Identity Card (ISIC) automatically receive some basic insurance coverage when traveling outside the United States.
