The academic program, supported by the family experience, constitutes the
prime element of the program in Spain. The homes are carefully chosen,
all
having been visited and inspected. They provide a pleasant, supportive atmosphere
for students. Each program participant lives with a Spanish family which
is
host to only one student. The homes are selected to a large extent on the
basis of the families' willingness to accept an American student as a part
of their household.
Students take all meals in the home, and family members participate in many of the group's activities. The homes are distributed throughout the city and vary in background and composition. Students may remain in their homes during vacation periods if they choose by making arrangements ahead of time with the director and with their families.
