Cost
The cost for the semester and full-year programs is equal to St. Lawrence
University's comprehensive fee ($44,435 for the 2007-08 academic year;
$22,217.50 for a semester). This cost includes tuition, room and board, group field
trips and cultural events. It does not cover airfare, passport and visa
fees, baggage
and health insurance, books, transportation to and from classes, and personal
expenses. Students who participate in the optional spring internship will
be charged the equivalent of one summer semester course to cover housing
and other program expenses.
Participants in the year program generally need an average of about $3000-$4000 for personal expenses (laundry, clothing, books, individual travel, etc.), but this amount clearly depends on the individual. Returning students say that their greatest cost was recreational travel.
A non-refundable first payment of $500 is to be made upon acceptance. The remaining sum must be paid upon receipt of bills from St. Lawrence University. Participants in the program will have incurred responsibility for the full cost once they have formally accepted enrollment. Refunds will be made in accordance with the policy outlined in the St. Lawrence catalog, minus any money that has been paid out on behalf of the student.
Financial Aid
The Spain Program is a regular St. Lawrence Program; therefore, financial aid for SLU students is automatically applied. Since St. Lawrence does not offer financial aid to
non-St. Lawrence students, these students should check with the financial aid office of their home institutions. There are travel funds available to SLU students
to help pay for airfare to and from the program as well as grants to help finance students' research projects.
Insurance
The St. Lawrence University Accident and Sickness Insurance provides worldwide coverage and offers the same benefits overseas that a St. Lawrence student would
receive on campus or in the US and Canada.
Non-St. Lawrence students and St. Lawrence students who have had the accident insurance requirement waived on the basis of family coverage should consult with their family or insurance advisor to determine whether their coverage is worldwide. All students are required to have accident and sickness insurance.
In addition, students who purchase an International Student Identity Card (ISIC) automatically receive basic insurance coverage when traveling outside the United States.
