An overall B minus (2.8) average and a B (3.0) average in the language should have been maintained. The equivalent of third-year college level study of Spanish (at least 201 and 202 at SLU) is required, but outstanding students with less preparation in the language may be accepted upon special recommendation; these students may be required to attend summer school or a summer language program.
Admission to the program is based on the quality of application. Candidates must present a coherent academic rationale for participation in the Spain Program and a record of academic performance that demonstrates ability to meet the challenges of off-campus study. The selection committee considers closely the candidate's rationale for participation and academic record as a whole. Candidates for the Spain Program must also present evidence of maturity, responsibility and cultural sensitivity.
Students currently on disciplinary, social, or academic probation are not eligible to apply for, or participate in, this program or any other SLU program. In addition, students with outstanding disciplinary fines, service hours and/or education program requirements are not eligible to participate in the program.
Completed applications for the Spain Program must be submitted to the SLU
Center for International and Intercultural Studies (CIIS) by September 25
for spring semester; February 20 for the fall semester and academic year.
Normally, decision letters are sent out about one month after the application
deadlines.
Students not accepted for off-campus study have one week from notification of the decision to file an appeal through the Center for International and Intercultural Studies (CIIS). A student must provide additional information that was not considered in the original decision. Students who wish to appeal a negative decision must first meet with the Director of Off-Campus Programs..
