Spain Program

Co-curricular Programs

Field trips, attendance at selected cultural events and other activities organized by the program complement the classes and are planned with the goal of furthering the students’ understanding of Spanish culture. The cost of all scheduled group activities is included in the comprehensive fee. The program also covers the cost of membership to libraries for research purposes.

Students receive tickets to the theater, symphony concerts and other selected events and are reimbursed according to program guidelines for attendance at cultural activities of their own choosing. The program also will support attendance at a bullfight or a soccer game.

In addition to field trips to different parts of Spain, the program organizes visits within the capital itself, ranging from museums to factories. Recent field trips have been to Santiago de Compostela in NW Spain, Extremadura, Andalusia, and to Picos de Europa.

While they are in Spain, students are encouraged to do volunteer work. In recent years, participants have taught English to Spanish children and young adults in a working-class area of Madrid, been placed in a children’s hospital and in day care centers, worked with the aged, etc.
