Nanzan University

The front gate in spring, Nanzan University Nanzan University is a private university of Catholic origins, with a student enrollment of about 7000. Of these, about 150 are foreign students -- American, British, Korean, Chinese and others -- who study at the Center for Japanese Studies which accepts students for either one or two semesters. The Center offers courses in the humanities, social sciences and Japanese arts in English, as well as courses in Japanese language.

Nanzan University is in Nagoya, a city of about 2 million. It is located in the central portion of the main island of Honshu, and is an excellent base for exploring the country. Tokyo is two hours away by the Shinkansen ("bullet" train); Kyoto is 47 minutes away. Other nearby attractions include the old city of Takayama, Ise-Shima National Park and the Grand Shrines at Ise. Seto City, center of Japan`s ceramics industry, and Toyota, of auto fame, are nearby.
