Completed applications for the India program must be submitted to the Center
for International and Intercultural Studies by December 1st. Generally, interviews
are held during the following week, and students are notified of the selection
committee's decisions before they leave campus for winter break.
The group is composed of students from each of the five member colleges, a
program director from a member college and an assistant director. Generally,
each college sends 4 students. If a college does not have 4 qualified applicants,
another school may send an additional qualified applicant.
The India study program is an opportunity open to junior and senior students
-- and occasionally sophomores -- with appropriate academic preparation, motivation,
and interest in the relevant area(s). Students currently on disciplinary, social,
or academic probation are not eligible to apply for, or participate in, off-campus
study programs.
In addition, students with outstanding disciplinary fines, service hours and/or education program requirements are not eligible to participate in the program.
Admission to this program is based on the quality of application. Candidates must present a coherent academic rationale for participation in the India Program and a record of academic performance that demonstrates ability to meet the challenges of off-campus study. Normally, this means a GPA of at least 2.8, but the selection committee considers closely the candidate's rationale for participation and academic record as a whole. Candidates for the India Program must also present evidence of maturity, responsibility, cultural sensitivity, and an ability to function as part of a diverse group.
Students must have completed at least one college-level course that prepares them for the academic program in India. It is the student's responsibility to schedule an interview at the Center for International and Intercultural Studies when the completed application is submitted.
