COST, EXPENSES, FINANCIAL AID, and INSURANCE
Cost
The
cost for the semester program is equal to St. Lawrence University's semester
charges (in 2007-2008, $22,217.50). This cost includes tuition,
room and board, library fees, theater tickets, and group excursions.
A non-refundable first payment of $500 is to be made upon acceptance. The remaining sum must be paid upon receipt of bills from St. Lawrence University. Participants in a program will have incurred responsibility for the full cost once they have formally accepted enrollment. Refunds will be made in accordance with the policy outlined in the St. Lawrence catalog, minus any money that has been paid out on behalf of the student.
Expenses
Students pay their own transatlantic fares, arrange for passports, visas, and
insurance, buy books, and provide their own spending and travel money. .
Breakfasts and two evening meals per week are provided by host families. Students will be rebated funds from the board fee every week to cover the cost of additional meals. Students are encouraged to make use of the University of London Student Union cafeteria.
Transportation costs within London will be borne by individual students. Students will need tube and bus passes to cover London's Central and Inner Zones. The cost of such a pass will be approximately $500 for the semester.
Most students bring additional money to cover personal expenses such as more elaborate meals out, weekend and break travel, and incidentals. In past years, students have brought between $1,500 and $2,500, but this clearly depends on the individual. Students are encouraged to secure ATM cards that give them access to current account funds in a US bank (Cirrus, Visa, Plus, etc.).
Financial Aid
The London Semester is a regular St. Lawrence Program; therefore, financial aid for St. Lawrence students is
automatically applied. Since St. Lawrence does not provide financial aid for non-St. Lawrence students, they
should check with their home university's financial aid office.
There are travel funds available to SLU students to help pay for the airfare to and from the program, as well as grants to help finance students’ research projects. Visit the Center for International and Intercultural Studies for more information.
Insurance
All students are required to have accident and sickness insurance. The St. Lawrence
University Accident and Sickness Insurance provides worldwide coverage and offers the same benefits
overseas that a St. Lawrence student would receive on campus. Non-St. Lawrence
students and St. Lawrence students who have had the accident insurance requirement
waived on the basis of family coverage should consult with their family or insurance
advisor to determine whether their coverage is worldwide.
In addition, students who purchase an International Student Identity Card (ISIC) automatically receive some basic insurance coverage when traveling outside the United States.
