St. Lawrence University students can study in San José, Costa Rica fall
or spring semesters through the University of Kansas' program. The program
begins in early July/late January
with a month-long orientation course that includes Spanish writing projects,
lectures on the history and culture of Costa Rica, and extended field trips.
Students take the remaining courses at the Universidad de Costa Rica when
university
classes begin in August/March.
This program is especially good for students interested in taking Humanities and Social Science classes in Spanish with Costa Rican students. An increasing number of UCR departments (biology, environmental studies, sustainable development) are opening their classes to program participants.
The program enables students to live with Costa Rican families and to experience the cultural and geographic diversity of Central America. It complements SLU's Caribbean and Latin American studies minor, and is open to students from all majors who have taken the appropriate level of Spanish.
