St. Lawrence University
Student Grants, Fellowships, and Financial Aid
for Off-Campus Study
All recognized St. Lawrence University Programs Abroad charge students the
same comprehensive fees they
would pay on campus. However, airfare (in most cases) and spending money
(in all cases) are additional costs. Students
currently on financial aid will continue to receive it and may often increase
their loans to accommodate extra expenses. St. Lawrence University and
the Center for International and Intercultural Studies provide a variety
of grants, fellowships and financial aid:
- Travel Enrichment
Grants are intended for students participating in SLU off-campus
programs who are connecting an academic or personal/extra-curricular
interest with study abroad or with intercultural experience within the
U.S. Grant proposals are due April 5 for fall/year
programs and November
5 for spring semester programs.
- Travel Research Grants
are intended to support students who want to supplement their off-campus
study experience in some way or obtain funding for travel in connection
with independent study and research on international or intercultural topics.
Proposals for Summer/fall semester and the academic year are due April
5; the deadline for January and spring semester projects is November
5.
- The CIIS Fellows
Program provides funding for a faculty member and from one to
three students to pursue research outside the regular semesters and to
share an experience of working off-campus in a significantly different
cultural setting. Proposals are due by February 1, 2008 for work to
be done in summer 2008 or January 2009, and are submitted to the Center
for International and Intercultural Studies in electronic and hard copies.
- There is limited financial aid available to qualified, matriculated St. Lawrence students to help with
the cost of airfare and, occasionally, for additional financial aid.
- Applications for airfare assistance must be submitted to the Center for International and Intercultural Studies by February 20 for Year or Fall Semester Programs or September 25 for spring semester programs.
- Applications
for additional financial aid for
off-campus programs are due April 5 for Fall/Year programs and November 5 for Spring semester programs.
- Other SLU Scholarships, Fellowships and Grants are available to St. Lawrence students who are interested in
working on international independent
study and enrichment projects. Detailed information is available through the Career Planning Office.
Students awarded a grant or fellowship are encouraged to share their
findings with the St. Lawrence University community. One way to do so is to
develop a simple web page or website and have us post it on our Student Sites.
