Oi Mate! My name is Rachel Taylor and I'm a senior here at SLU. Originally from Lee, New Hampshire I always knew that I wanted to study abroad. In the Spring of 2012 I got the amazing opportunity to live in Townsville, Australia and study at James Cook University. As a double major in Anthropology and History I needed to make sure I entered into a program that could accommodate both of my majors. JCU provided the opportunity to take classes I could not have taken at SLU and meet people I never would have met.

Living on campus in George Roberts Hall with Australian and American students my own age helped me pick up a lot of the Australian lingo and learn all about Aussie customs. The fantastic tropical location of Townsville allowed me to experience the nearby Great Barrier Reef and was a great launching point for many travels around Queensland and other parts of Australia. My time spent both inside and outside the classroom was incredibly rewarding.

Overall I had a fantastic "Uni" experience in Oz. The large school and bigger city environment gave me new experiences I would have missed out on in rural Canton. Although it was intimidating at times to be 10,000 miles away from home - the trip all the way around the world was completely worth it!
