Introduction
Patti McGill Peterson Center for International and Intercultural Studies
Nanzan University is a private university of Catholic origins, with a student enrollment of about 7,000. Of these, about 150 are international students - American, British, Korean, Chinese and others - who study at the Center for Japanese Studies which accepts students for either one or two semesters. The Center offers courses in the humanities, social sciences and Japanese arts in English, as well as courses in Japanese language.
St. Lawrence students at Nanzan take intermediate or advanced Japanese. They are placed at an appropriate level as determined by a diagnostic test administered shortly after their arrival in Japan.
Nanzan University offers a year-long or semester option. Preference is given to students applying for the year-long option.
Students are required by St. Lawrence to stay with a homestay family.
