Principles of the Progressive Christian Worship Service

We invite all who are interested in attending to join us for worship on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. in Gunnison Chapel. Worship Service will be offered every Sunday during the fall and spring semester with Associate Chaplain Shaun Whitehead preaching. Dress is casual! All are welcome!
  1. Whereas the service is rooted in the Christian tradition, we acknowledge, honor, and celebrate the many ways we find our way to God
  2. Collective wisdom is important, i.e. not solely priest-led
  3. Focuses on compassion versus dogma
  4. Multiracial and multicultural
  5. Uses inclusive language for God and humanity
  6. Inclusive and welcoming of others

At the heart of leadership is listening. Listening to your spirit or nurturing your spirit does not equal religion. It may overlap with religion or belief in God, but this time is about meeting a universal human need to care for our spirit.

So our working definition of spirituality is "that which moves us toward wholeness" - again, that may include religion or God, or it may not - but the nurture of your spirit is the critical piece.

Whoever you are, and wherever you find yourself on life’s journey, you are welcome here!

"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
~Matthew 22:36-40~
