Rev. Kathleen Buckley, University Chaplain

Welcome! I am the Reverend Kathleen Buckley. As an ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian
Church in 1986, I am also a member of the United Church of Christ [Congregationalists]. I received my Master of
Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in 1981. Subsequent to seminary I did a Chaplain Residency at
Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. When I came to the Capital District in 1986, I accepted a call
to be Pastor of the First Presbytarian Church of Watervliet where I served until 1993.
I teach workshops on practical communication skills and have spoken regularly to community groups and congregations
on issues related to theology and sexuality. As University Chaplain I seek to minister to students, faculty and
staff in a broad based spiritual framework focusing on 3 primary goals: inviting inquiry, fostering wholeness and
teaching respect for all life. My office is in Gunnison Memorial Chapel.
Rev. Shaun Whitehead, Associate Chaplain
Greetings! My name is Reverend Shaun Whitehead and I am a native of Chicago, Illinois. I am a graduate of
McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, Illinois, where I received a Master of Divinity degree. I accepted
a call as Associate Chaplain, here at St. Lawrence University in September 2003. I am an ordained Minister
of Word and Sacrament in the United Church of Christ.
As Associate Chaplain, I am the worship leader of the Progressive Christian Worship Community, a community
that seeks to foster the Christian ideals of Welcome and Hospitality... to ALL people. We further seek to break
down barriers, and build relationships that are inclusive, reconciling and affirming. With so much unrest in
our world, I believe that we are in dire need of the good news the Gospel; the Gospel that loves and welcomes
not the rhetoric that rejects and judges. I believe this Gospel to be a living word and we are the living text!
We gather for worship services each Sunday evening at 4:00pm in Gunnison Chapel. Come sing along with our
Gospel Choir! Come and lift up prayers and praise to God! As we live into the welcome of God, YOU are indeed
welcome in this place. My office is in Gunnison Memorial Chapel. Peace & Blessings to you!
