This placement is located approximately 12 miles from campus. Please note that it may be an approximate 15 minute ride from campus.
Builders Club consists of middle school students (grades 5-7) from AAK Middle School in Potsdam, NY.
First hour of placement: Students will engage the youth in various topics to include: characteristics of leadership, how to be a good leader, building confidence, public speaking and how to run a club meeting. Other activities will be a leadership/team building activity at each meeting and assist the students in planning a fundraising event at the school. The fall service event is a movie night and the spring service event will include either a movie night or game night.
Second hour of placement: Working with the 7th grade students through research and creativity to create a proposal for revamping the elementary school service/leadership club. For example, finding weekly activities such as team building activities and other activities that teach kindness and service towards their school and community. By the end of the semester, SLU students will have completed a proposal to be presented to the Potsdam Kiwanis Members as a possible program to be implemented by first-year program students from SLU in fall 2015.
